the art of cynicism

here you will find a collection of rants and some possible insight in to a quite misanthropic mind. but, it's not all negativity - there will be the occasional optimistic passage. also, expect some art and photos of fuzzy animals.

Everything and Nothing: I'll Never Know →

myeverythingandnothing:

“Why do you love her?”

You know, there really are several reasons beyond the fact that she is amazing sexy even when she doesn’t know how to be. Although, that is a big one. A very big one. But what really tickles me to death is when she remembers the inconsequential shit that I say. I’ve been on…

Enlightenment With Progression

I must say, I am typically very hard on people. For those people who are not my husband or my family, I find it very easy to right them off, and I do it quickly. Often times within the first 48 hours of meeting someone, I’ve already lumped them in to one of two categories: “to research further” or “throw it out.” Harsh, I know, but why delay the inevitable? Best to go ahead and rid myself of the burden. My biggest peeves are drug addicts, whores (both male and female), animal neglecters and abusers, irresponsible and negligent parents, and people who suck off of the system expecting others to provide for them. Those people immediately go into the trash bin. Lesser irritations include lazy people, people with no ambition, people with constant “it’s never my fault” and “the world hates me” attitudes, people desperate for attention, and people with no self-worth. The lesser irritants are tricky - I can handle one of the flaws, but if two or more show, they ride the express lane to the trash bin.

I admit, at times it gets lonely. So many people just don’t make the cut; but I would rather be lonely than be miserable or be forced to deal with the drama caused by worthless people, all so that I have a warm body with which to speak. I would rather all mistakes and bad situations in my life be of my own making. Many times I have been referred to as “judgmental”, “an elitist”, or otherwise “egotistical”. I truly don’t feel that that is the case. It is my morals that make up the standards. I don’t ask that anyone act in a way that I don’t already act myself. In fact, I don’t ask that they do anything at all. They either are, or they aren’t, and my morals decide the rest. That doesn’t necessarily make me “holier than thou”, but our morals are the only thing in life that we can honestly control, and no one else is important enough for me to lower or otherwise alter my morals.

You shouldn’t embrace the flaws of others anymore than they should embrace your flaws. While we’re on it, you shouldn’t embrace flaws in yourself. If everyone’s flaws were accepted, what motivation would they have to change? None. Now, don’t get me wrong - there can be beauty in some mistakes, but don’t confuse that beauty with a potential lifestyle. As humans, it is our purpose to grow, to change, and to become better. Never find comfort in the things you could change. And while we’re here - if you feel like I may have listed a trait of yours above, take a moment to consider it. Is that a label you’re comfortable with? Is that a way you would like to be known? Because whether or not you embrace it, the fact is that if the label fits… it fits. Do something about it.

People need to realize that it is not mandatory that we accept others, nor that we become hippies who love everyone. We only must tolerate them, in the sense that they exist and murder is illegal.

Stanley Donwood, an artist who frequently lends his talents to the cover and poster art for Radiohead, has created a poster designed in support of Occupy Wall Street.
The poster is accompanied by this note from the artist:

As the mendacity of the One Per Cent continues, here is a small tool which you may download, blow up, paste, copy, pass on, and do whatever with. I’m not sure where the quote is from; I saw it on a poster at Occupy Sheffield last week, where they thought that the words were possibly from a former Prime Minister of Canada.

I myself went looking for the source of this quote and I have seen it questionably attributed to Lester B. Pearson (indeed a former PM of Canada) and also to a murky character called B. Lester, and also, of course, to Jon Stewart. Who knows where the original quote is from.
